General Information and Philosophies

Like most subjects of interest, model car enthusiests got "the bug" at an early age. Like a ball, cars are much more interesting when being used in animation (such as playing football or racing). Honing skills/cars/tracks is a must in most people.

SlotCar Australia aims to help in, not only, honing skills/cars/tracks, but also conducting race meetings and
competitions.

A 1:24th scale car (bottom), with a 1:32nd  scale car (bottom-middle), a 1:43rd scale car (top-middle), and a HO scale car (top)

Slotcars come in many sizes. From matchbox size HO scale (actually they are 1:64th which is about OO scale) to 1:24th scale cars. Some rely on magnets for grip, some on aerodynamics on the car body, some have special "sticky" tires, but most are detailed versions of real 1:1 cars.

When it comes to car racing and model car racing, it is mainly thought that the biggest/most powerful motors produce the best lap-times. This is true most of the time, especially on modern super-smooth circuits with bulk power available.

Whilst competition amongst others is a natural progression, unfortunently it becomes the be-all and end-all for many people. In my opinion, this (the lust to be better than others) is not only the downfall of slotcar racing, but all sports and life in general. It can be a problem, but i do have a simple solution for this. Shift the focus from competition with other people to competition with yourself! Using slotcar racing for this example; Each racer has their own personal single and total lap records displayed at a track and bettering THEIR OWN records are their focus for race meets (rather than focussing on other people who may have other parts/skills/experience). Still include overall acheivments, etc in results, but put the main emphasis on personal results, acheivments, etc.
